The CEN will hold a kick-off meeting on 26 Ferbuary 2021 on the development of a European standardization deliverable for COVID-19 health and safety protocols for tourism establishments and services. This work will be carried out as a result of a request received by the European Commission on 10 January 2021.

Given that particpation in the kick-off meeting implies tacit approval of the initiative and there is no consensus among HOTREC Members to express such support, HOTREC will not take part in the meeting. HOTREC will consequently submit the following general comment to CEN:

CEN Technical Board members had the opportunity to have a preliminary, non-technical discussion on the request, during a web meeting on 26 January 2021. During this meeting, it was decided that the ISO/DPAS 5643 ‘Tourism and related services – Measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the tourism industry’ would serve as a basis for technical discussions. A consultation of HOTREC Members on this CEN initiative has been undertaken (more information available here).

HOTREC would nonetheless appreciate receiving information on the proceedings of the workshop should any HOTREC Members choose to take part in it (registration form available below).

It is possible to send comments directly to the Workshop Secretary Ms Natalia Ortiz de Zárate Crespo - UNE ([email protected]) by 19 February 2021. You are kindly requested to use the commenting form below.
