The hospitality sector is key for Europe from both an economic and a social point of view and it has a high capacity to contribute to growth in other sectors of the economy. The relaunch of the sector must, therefore, be considered as a strategic priority of the EU.

Diverse and adaptable forms of work are essential to Europe’s recovery
The Covid-19 crisis has a devastating impact on our sectors, who are important for job creation and growth in Europe. Part-time, fixed-term work and temporary agency work meet both the needs of employees who have other commitments either in domestic or educational contexts, and the need for labour-intensive services sectors to serve customers predominantly outside regular office hours, and peak periods of demand around holiday and sales periods. Together with full-time work, the diverse and adaptable forms of work in our sectors underpin Europe's social market economy, provide jobs to many women, young and people with disabilities, and are necessary for Europe’s recovery.

Temporary VAT rate reductions for hospitality - HOTREC, FoodDrinkEurope and FoodService Europe Position Paper
HOTREC, FoodDrinkEurope and FoodServiceEurope ask for support from the EU for temporary reduced VAT rates in the hospitality sector in order to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis. Our position paper highlights why reduced VAT rates are beneficial for hospitality and contract catering and an essential and highly effective measure of support in these times.

HOTREC Position Paper on the Farm to Fork Strategy
HOTREC acknowledges that the Farm to Fork Strategy is part of the EU Green Deal and welcomes its aim to make food systems fair, healthy, environmentally-friendly and resilient to crisis such as COVID-19. HOTREC also believes that the Strategy will contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and supports the Strategy's following objectives.
