COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS ON HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES - UPDATED 'LOCKDOWN MEASURES' DOCUMENT

Since the previous update of 14 April 2021, infections across European countries have, to some extent, decreased and the restrictions have relatively been eased.

  • Infections remain relatively high or have significantly increased in Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Serbia, Slovenia and Sweden;
  • Despite significant decreases, infection rates remain high in Cyprus, the Netherlands and Turkey;
  • Room for optimism comes from significant decreases or relatively low and stable figures for Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom;
  • The evolution of rates remain concerning in Georgia and Lithuania.

Most European governments have lifted some measures at the end of April or throughout the month of May, with many aiming to further ease their measures and some even at welcoming tourists from June 2021 if epidemiological figures start revealing a positive trend.

Restaurants and bars have reopened their terraces in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and restaurants and bars have planned to reopen their terraces in May or in early June in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom.

Bars and restaurants have already reopened indoor in Denmark, Georgia, Norway and Portugal and they are planned to reopen in May/June in Poland, Slovenia and the United Kingdom.
