Live from Brussels | Newsletter | February 2025
Dear readers,
As we step into 2025, the European hospitality industry continues to grow. This newsletter highlights the conversations, initiatives and regulations shaping the sector in the months ahead.
We began the year by championing fair competition in digital markets at a breakfast event in the European Parliament hosted by MEP Andreas Schwab. The exchange emphasised the importance of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in levelling the playing field for the hotel industry across Europe.
Sustainability remains at the forefront of our agenda. From reusable packaging to environmental footprint rules for the accommodation sector, HOTREC is actively working with stakeholders to make sustainability a tangible reality for our sector.
Labour and skills shortages also take centre stage, with the EU Talent Pool initiative offering promising solutions. Meanwhile, ongoing discussions on Traineeships and Green Claims show our commitment to ensuring balanced regulations that address industry needs while supporting SME growth.
Our newsletter features an insightful interview with Paweł Niewiadomski, President of the Polish Chamber of Tourism, at the start of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council.
This edition also highlights the European Commission's Competitiveness Compass, a strategic framework aimed at promoting innovation, sustainability and economic security – essential pillars for hospitality SMEs navigating an evolving market.
We invite you to explore these updates and more as we continue to advocate for a vibrant and resilient hospitality sector.
Best regards,
The HOTREC Team
