Coordinated measures across Europe only viable way to fight the virus and safeguard tourism businesses: HOTREC issues joint position paper
Following the worsening of the epidemiological situation in Europe, on 22 November 2021, HOTREC joined other stakeholders in the travel and tourism community in urging the Institutions and the Member States to align and coordinate travel restrictions ahead of the coming festive season.
We believe that reimposing restrictions on cross-border movement for citizens would not be a viable solution in limiting the transmission of the virus – as recently stated by the European Centre for Disease and Control (ECDC) – and could further damage our already fragile industry.
“Our sector is not out of the woods yet: many businesses – especially SMEs and micro-enterprises – are still fighting to survive. Favouring a coordinated risk-based approach in travel rules and restrictions, and granting equal and timely access to vaccine booster doses will be the only way to ensuring much-needed stability”, said Ms Marie Audren, HOTREC Director-General.
