Short-term rentals : European Commission opens preliminary consultation on future legislative initiative

Background

On 16 September, the European Commission published an inception impact assessment document outlining future plans to develop a legislative initiative on short-term rentals (STR), opening a feedback period until 14 October 2021. Open comments can be provided via the following link (EU login required – you can create an account here).

This initial step should be quickly followed up by a broader and more extensive public consultation before the end of 2021.The European Commission announces that a legislative initiative will be published in Q1 2022.

HOTREC will provide a contribution to the European Commission inception impact assessment by 14 October 2021. The following memo below includes further background information and a draft response by HOTREC. We invite HOTREC Members to contact the HOTREC secretariat for feedback, comments and corrections to the draft response by 7 October 2021.
