Statistics: impact of COVID-19 on air passenger transport in Q2 2020
The EU's statistical office Eurostat has published data on air passenger transport comparing the number of passengers during Q1 and Q2 2020 to Q1 and Q2 in 2019.
The data shows the extent of the impact of restrictive measures taken by governments to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the first half of 2020. The largest decreases in numbers of passengers were observed in Spain (-61.6 million passengers carried, -99%), Germany (-59.1 million, -97%), France (-44.2 million, -97%), Italy (-42.6 million, -98%), the Netherlands (-20.9 million, -96%), Portugal (-15.0 million, -97%), Ireland (-10.3 million, -98%), Austria (-9.2 million, -98%) and Denmark (-9.1 million, -97%).
